I have tried a similar setup to use a spare mac I had laying around as an extra display. Note: I can drag windows to the extra monitor, however some serious visual glitches are present. However all I can see is a truncated version of the main display. My DE (Budgie) also can't see the extra screen, and I can't set it up. But the "virtual" screen is there! I can get my mouse left of the screen, but it's disconnected. I just couldn't get it to become connected. However, if I type xrandr, I get DisplayPort-0 disconnected.
For the command works fine, everything is fine. Here I've "enabled" my DP port left of my main monitor. ( the mode is already setup successfully) xrandr -output DisplayPort-0 -mode 1368x768_60 -left-of HDMI-A-0 Here I've used the existing DP port on my GPU, problem is that the resolution of my laptop screen is lower than my desktop screen (1080). Here's what I've done xrandr -addmode DisplayPort-0 1368x768_60 I want to extend my desktop into my laptop screen, research has shown me that the best way to do this is to use VNC.
